This week's assignment was focused around the resource of Weebly. For the most part I enjoyed using Weebly. It was a fun sort of activity and it helps to know how to make a site for your classroom. I think if I were to use this with my classroom I would need to have it in Spanish also. Some of the things we were asked to add I liked, some not so much. I do think the Widgets are cute in a way, but the advertisements makes it look...cheap and cluttered. I did make one that was like a Google Doc where my students could submit their information to visit with me. My site is completely fictitious but I think it's a great resource. I was not able to get the cursor going because of issues with coding, I almost lost my whole site and for a while I thought I had, so I decided to just publish and not fiddle with it. I looked at several YouTube videos, and my screen didn't show what they were showing (now I know from Ms. Morgan that it was because I was using Chrome). I think Weebly would be a great resource for middle school to high school students to learn to make their own websites. It is very easy to use, and great resource. I also learned about using animated icons/pictures, things I typically wouldn't have used otherwise. Like the one below.
Second part of the assignment was to evaluate 2 educational resources. I choose one that was ESL for my students, and another that was a site for all elementary children. I found a site that I was interested in using in my class because it encourages children at all levels to work online and on their areas of issues.
Below is a YouTube video about why you should use Weebly in your classroom and its benefits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vP_z25TmPPg
Christina,
ReplyDeleteI think your website turned out great! I am glad that I posted the information about Google Chrome and that it helped you! I went through issues with the widgets too. I also think they clutter the pages and I hate the ads they bring along with them. I don't think they are very necessary on a classroom website beside the Google search bar maybe. I will probably take some of them off when I go to actually use my site with my families. I know you said your site is completely ficticious but I think you did an amazing job! I know that with your population you need it to also be translated into Spanish...which sounds very difficult to do! But if you could do it that would be an amazing resource for your families! Keep up the good work. It was nice working with you in this class!
Christina,
ReplyDeleteI love how your website turned out! I also enjoyed the Weebly activity. I think this activity was my favorite one that we did all semester! I agree with you that Weebly would be a great source for both middle and high school students to create a personal website. The teacher could then link the students websites all on his or her page so that way the parents would be able to see the students sites. I think this activity would allow the students to show their creativity!
